ABOUT NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME

National Service Scheme (NSS) was launched in the year 1969 to celebrate the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Sri M. K. Gandhi. It was started initially 37 universities involving 40,000 volunteers. NSS is an extension dimension to the higher education to orient the student youth to community service while they are studying in educational institutions. NSS volunteers have been rendering selfless service to the community. The main aim of the NSS is to facilitate personality development of the students through social and community service.

To  develop the personality and character of the youth through voluntary community service, with a view to creating a more just, caring, and responsible citizens.”

MISSION

The National Service Scheme has been functioning with the motto “NOT ME BUT YOU” in view of making the youth inspired in service of the people and hence NSS Aims Education through Community Service and Community Service through Education.

OBJECTIVES

The main objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) are

i.To understand the community in which they work.
ii.To understand themselves in relation to their community.
iii. To identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem solving.
iv. To develop competence required for group living and sharing of responsibilities.
v.To practice national integration and social harmony.
vi. To develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters.
vii. To acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes.
viii. To utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems.

NSS MOTO

The moto of NSS “Not Me But You” reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service. NSS helps the students development and appreciation to other persons point of view and also show consideration towards other living beings.The philosophy of the NSS is a good doctrine in this moto , which underlines on the belief that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society as a whole and therefore the NSS volunteers shall strive for the wellbeing of the society.
