Strength of Department
- The department has a well-knit, committed and vibrant faculty, who apart from being proficient teachers are also instrumental in maintaining a strong bond and a high level of interaction with students at all levels. The department has a history of progressive results in various examinations of our University.
Our students learn to think creatively and deeply about some of the most important literary topics. - The faculty of the department has adopted varied teaching methodologies to make the classroom environment receptive and non-oppressive for its students
- The students are encouraged to explore beyond their prescribed curriculum by exposing them to various seminars, extension talks, and lecture series etc., which are a regular feature of the department.
- Even without initiating an overt division of classes into weak and strong students, it addresses the needs of the ‘weak’ by holding special remedial classes for them.
Achievements of the Department
- Faculty members are Ph.D. degree and SLET holders.
- Pass % of the Department is above 95%( consistently)
- Published research papers in reputed National and International Journals
- The language laboratory is a very helpful tool for practicing and assessing one’s speech in any language. It provides a facility which allows the student to listen to model pronunciation, repeat and record the same, listen to their performance and compare with the model, and do self-assessment.
- Through language lab we involve students to actively participate in language learning exercises and get more practice time than otherwise would be possible in a traditional classroom environment.
- Teaching children who can’t read in the beginning of the year and seeing them progress to sounding out words and eventually being able to read independently has been a great source of satisfaction.

BEST PRACTICES
- The department faculty members stretch their innovative approach to train the students who are from different parts of the district.
- Task based language teaching is practiced. Students are encouraged to do presentations such as seminar, assignment, and power point presentation to enhance the competence of learners in language learning.
- Communicative language teaching (CLT) is implemented. In CLT, the learners are involved in various group activities like role play, debate and group discussion generate long-term incorporated in one’s repertoire of thinking skills.
- An intensive competitive exam coaching is provided to the students who seek higher studies or jobs.
- Department provided a certificate course on Basics of English Grammar
- The department has availed a well-equipped, well-resourced Communication English Laboratory and JKC with 30 laptops and imparts the required communicative training through the latest and learner friendly soft wares .
- Adaption of Student-Centric Methods in Language Teaching to create an active classroom by increasing student participation and to focus on Teaching language as a skill oriented subject
- Improving the Listening, Speaking, Reading and writing Skills of students since most of them are from rural background and first generation learners and have poor communication skills
- This is the regular practice of the college during teaching.
- Designing Listening Modules for Prose and poetry with Pre-Listening, While Listening and Post-Listening Activities. Designing reading modules for Prose and Poetry with Reading activities like Skimming, Scanning, Zig-saw reading etc., Designing writing modules to train students in the Five Step writing process. More emphasis is laid on Speaking Skills by involving them in Pair work and Group Work
- Integrating Soft skills with the Text.
- To equip students with the required soft skills to meet the challenges of the global world. Integrating soft skills with the prescribed text can be a value addition and lends a practical orientation to the lesson. This saves time and is cost affective.
- Evidence of Success
- Students are able to grasp some of the attitudes and tendencies like Positive§ Thinking, Time- management, Coping with Frustration etc.
- Weekly one hour is allotted for “Pleasure Reading” To enable the students derive the pleasure of reading stories. to help the students improve their vocabulary and to improve their comprehension levels.
